Castle Peak Power Station is one of the world's largest and cleanest coal-fired power stations and is operated by CLP. It was constructed in the 1980s to meet high growth in Hong Kong's electricity demand and to change CLP's primary fuel from oil to coal. As time passes and the community's desire for improved environmental standards increases, we have introduced the emissions control facilities to reduce sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides emissions phasing in from 2010, besides our ongoing emissions management measures.
As CLP continues to decarbonise its generation portfolio, three of the four coal-fired generations units at Castle Peak A Power Station with a combined capacity of 1,050MW have been retired by mid-2024.
